Who uses lockers at Classic Cleaners?
June 7, 2011
Most of our 17 Indianapolis-area stores provide a convenience-adding, fee-free locker system that gives customers the ability to drop off and pick up orders 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The service is super secure and is available even when our stores aren’t staffed, so it’s no surprise that so many customers love our lockers.
Here’s an idea of some customers who find the lockers to be quite valuable:
Tireless professionals. These customers typically arrive at work early and leave late. Their free time is virtually non-existent and there’s little chance they’re near a store during normal hours of operation. Exhausted, they stop by their designated, PIN-secured locker at all hours of the night for fresh clothes.
Vampires. Luckily, cloaks in need of a cleaning can be dropped off and retrieved under the shelter of darkness. These customers typically prefer to do business at night, when there are fewer obstacles and discretion is a requirement.
Travelers. Whether traveling for business or leisure, these customers are always on-the-go. On the way to or from the airport, orders in need of clean can be dropped off and freshly cleaned orders can be picked up – all at the customers’ convenience.
Second shift-ers. Working through the night and sleeping through the day sometimes makes it difficult to run errands and complete chores. But unusual work schedules shouldn’t prevent you from being dressed to impress.

Classic Cleaners Gals Become Villagers in Carmel
September 18, 2010
Firmly ensconced in the Village now, Nancy treats all her customers (90% of whom are Village residents) like family. Remembering her first day at this location, however, Nancy confesses it took her four hours just to find the place!
“Not just streets and houses. It’s life. A vibrant, connected, memorable life”, reads the description on the Village of West Clay website. A reviewer on Citysearch calls it “one of the most unique and arguably the best neighborhood in Indiana, if not the Midwest.” Classic Cleaners Village customers live in apartments, townhouses, and homes of every size. You can see fountains and park areas all around. The Classic Cleaners store is nestled in the Village proper, among quaint storefronts and professional offices.
Customer service representative Kat Toller and Nancy make a perfect tag team in this cozy and unique Village setting. It’s not unusual for customers to bring in a problem stain saying, “Nancy and Kat, we know you’ll take care of this.” (In fact, while I was interviewing Nancy, a gentleman rushed into the store, tossing a pair of trousers on the counter, saying he was in a big hurry. The customer was obviously confident that Nancy recognized him and would “take care of it”.)
Patrons in less of a rush always admire the beautiful needlepoint tapestry created by Lucille Arnold (wife of Classic Cleaners founder Carl Arnold) that adorns the store’s reception area wall. The store’s 37 lockers are used by no fewer than 235 customers (should there be no space when you drop off clothes, Nancy will see to it that your clothes are delivered to your home.)
Always active in the community, Classic Cleaners donates rails to hang coats in the local school, and cleans the school’s bear mascot costume on a regular basis. Getting involved with the local girl scout troop’s Operation Cookie Drop and Beanie Babies for Iraqi children project, plus sponsoring the ice cream social – all this activity keeps Nancy and Kat on their toes. And, with Fall Festival at the Village coming up soon, these Classic Cleaners gals will be seeing a lot of their West Clay Villager friends!

Dry Cleaners In Indianapolis: Drop-Off Lockers Of The Right Kind
June 11, 2010
The debate rages on.
Linguists and historians can’t seem to agree on the origins of the expression “Davey Jones’ Locker”
(referring to the bottom of the sea where drowned sailors go).
Meanwhile, there’s no debating the fact that Indy’s best dry cleaners has installed drop-off (These lockers are very dry and definitely above ground!)
lockers in a dozen of its retail locations.
The first mention of Davey Jones was in a book, published in 1751, called The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle. “This same Davy Jones, according to sailors, is the fiend that presides over all the evil spirits of the deep,” wrote author Tobias Smollett.
A second theory is that “Davey” equals “Duffy”, the West Indiana term for ghost, and that “Jones” stands for “Jonah”, whom God punished by causing him to be swallowed by a whale.
There’s more. A 1594 song called “Jones’ Ale is Newe” told of a pub owner who threw drunken sailors into his ale locker and then dumped the lockers onto passing ships.
I can assure you – at Classic Cleaners, lockers are used for convenience, not punishment. Our lockers are for holding clothes, not ale or sailors!)
Working late? Just returned from vacation? It’s so convenient to drop off your personalized express dry cleaning bag in the secure chute. We do the rest. Then, once your clothes are ready for pickup, we store them in a locker accessible by your personalized PIN.
Next time you visit us at Classic Cleaners, tell the manager you’re ready to sign up for your very own locker services.
You can hear the Davey Jones name right in the U.S. Navy song, Anchors Aweigh. “Sail on to victory, and sink their bones to Davey Jones, hooray!”, the words go.
At Classic Cleaners, we won’t be sinking anybody’s bones. Every so often, though, after seeing how beautifully a problem garment turned out under Classic Cleaners specialists’ expert care, customers do let out a “Hooray” or two!
