Elegance at the Table: Laundering Linens with Classic Cleaners' December Special
November 30, 2010
CLASSIC CLEANERS’ DECEMBER SPECIAL
25% OFF TABLE LINENS
Just reading through the list of washing instructions offered on http://www.tableclothdesigns.com/washing/index.htm is enough to make me run for professional help!
For 34 different linen brands listed on the website, including names from Ashford to Wellington, the instructions include 110º water temperature and avoiding detergents with high alkaline levels. For 37 other brands, with names from Athena to Verona, the wash temperature should be 80º – 100º. For yet 39 other brands, from Anchors Aweigh to Zebra, water temperature is to be less than 140º, and for certain others, including Dazzle-do, there is a warning not to iron or mangle the cloth.
With Thanksgiving just past and winter holiday celebrations fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to plan your elegant table. That’s why, at Classic Cleaners, the December special is table linens.
As Indianapolis Star “Do-It-Yourself” Shelly Miller Leer comments, “Nothing dresses things up like a white tablecloth and tapered candles…”.Miller suggests using 5 round, colored placemats (also included in the Classic Cleaners special offer for table linens) lined up in the center of your table with spray-painted miniature pumpkins placed on the mats as decoration.
Whether you’re planning white tablecloth with colored napkins and place mats, or favor bright holiday colors in table linens for your party or family meal, you will love the results of Classic Cleaners’ advanced cleaning and pressing process. We’re very proud of our large professional press, something most dry cleaners do not have. Even with the best instruction manual, the results would be impossible to replicate at home.
A warning of our own: Don’t wait to bring in tablecloths and napkins that have the inevitable stains from Thanksgiving festivities. This is indeed a case where time is of the essence. At Classic Cleaners we guarantee to remove 100% of stains or the cleaning is free, but that guarantee applies only to fresh stains!
At Classic Cleaners, we want do do our part to ensure each of our customers can set an elegant table for the holidays!

Christening or Bris, Classic Cleaners Helps Newborns Arrive in Style
November 26, 2010
As career coaches are fond of cautioning, “You are given only one chance to make a good first impression.”
In keeping with that motto, the well-dressed newborn will often enter ‘society” dressed in a sparkling white or cream-colored christening gown or suit. In the Jewish tradition, boy babies are often dressed for their circumcision ceremony in a white bris gown, while girls may be dressed in white baby clothing for their naming ceremony. There are circumcision ceremonies in the Muslim faith as well. In fact, community celebrations to welcome newborns are common in all communities, often with special garments for infants to wear.
The website www.mdmohel.com refers to the Jewish Brit Milah ceremony as “a joyous beginning…the first of many milestones and happy occasions to be joyously celebrated during the child’s life. Muslim circumcision ceremonies, christenings, and baptisms are all considered joyous occasions, with each tradition having its own way of welcoming baby’s entry into the community.
Larami Museum offers advice on storing heirloom clothing: First, cut out all light. Check clothing to be sure no bugs have entered the storage area. Do not use moth balls to handle pests, warns Larami – they are toxic to clothing!
At Classic Cleaners, we know, because many families pass down the special garments worn by the baby through generations. Often help is needed from the dry cleaning and heirloom restoration specialists at Classic Cleaners in order for baby garments that have lain dormant for many years to be delicately cleaned and restored, ready for the newest family member’s first public appearance!

Dry Cleaning is Local, and So is Ownership at Classic Cleaners
November 23, 2010
All dry cleaning is local, you might argue. After all, no one ships clothes out of state to be laundered or dry cleaned! So, if your dry cleaners is locally operated, is it important whether it’s locally owned?
CityofSoundcom thinks so. “Locally owned independent retailers contribute a vast amount to cities… recent research from the US indicates that between 54 and 58 cents of every dollar spent at a locally-owned retailer stays in that local environment.” (The article goes on to explain why: Local businesspeople employ local accountants, local delivery services, local web designers, local signwriters, local architects, advertise in the local newspaper, and so on.
Staylocal.org of New Orleans lists no fewer than ten reasons to shop local:
- Protect local character and prosperity
- Community well being
- Local decision making
- Keeping dollars in the local economy
- Jobs and wages
- Entrepreneurship
- Public benefits and costs
- Environmental sustainability
- Competition
- Product diversity
Classic Cleaners is locally owned and locally operated. The first Classic Cleaners store opened in Indianapolis in January 1985. Today, there are 17 stores in locations that include Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Zionsville and McCordsville along with Indianapolis. Pickup and delivery service is available in the surrounding localities bordered by Fortville, Pittsboro, and Cicero.
As far as the Staylocal.org list, Classic Cleaners is certainly 10 for 10. Through membership in the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Carmel Chamber of Commerce, and the Fishers Chamber of Commerce, Classic Cleaners does its part to strengthen local communities. Through its financial support of Dress For Success Indianapolis, local Girl Scout troops, the Museum of 20th Century Warfare, and many other local charities, Classic Cleaners stays involved in local community needs, seeks to be an employer of choice and to protect the environment in all its operations.
Local, anyone?

At Classic Cleaners, Specials Are Never a Riddle!
November 19, 2010
As our customers know, “specials” aren’t just once-in-a-while affairs at Classic Cleaners. In fact, there’s a new special offer every month of the year! November’s special, for example, is outerwear, and in December, we’ll be offering 25% off table linens. Specials, you see, are just one more way we have of showing our appreciation to our loyal fans.
In the Mensa book of puzzles, Lateral Thinking & Logical Deduction, there’s a riddle about a dry cleaners that offered a “special” on business clothing. We thought it would be fun to share the riddle with our blog readers:
A dry cleaners was having a one-day sale offering a 20% discount on business clothes. That day, customers brought in trousers,
jackets, and skirts.
1 more customer brought in only jackets than those who brought in trousers only.
9 customers brought in trousers only.
15 customers each brought in trousers, jackets, and skirts.
26 customers each brought in skirts and jackets, but no trousers.
13 customers each brought in jackets and trousers, but no skirts.
5 customers each brought in skirts only.
The same number of people brought in trousers and skirts, but no jacket as those who brought
in only jackets.
Can you figure out the total number of customers who took advantage of the dry cleaning “special” that day?
(If you’ve figured out the answer, simply put a comment at the bottom of this page, or turn in your answer with your next Classic Cleaners order.)
Hint: Our neighbor the math teacher advises using a Venn diagram to solve the riddle.
If you’re stymied by the Mensa riddle, at Classic Cleaners, we have a much simpler set of numbers for you to
keep in mind:
For every $200 you spend within a six-month period, Classic Cleaners will give you $10 off your next order. Best of all, there are no forms to fill out. You’re automatically enrolled!
